Pilates | Winfield Hospital

What is Pilates

Pilates is named after its creator, Joseph Pilates.  It is an exercise programme that works the whole body by co-ordinating the deep postural muscles with the muscles of the upper and lower body.  Pilates is becoming more widely recognised in the medical world as a valuable method of injury prevention and rehabilitation.  Here at the Winfield the Pilates classes are led by a physiotherapist, they offer the class participants an exercise programme that focuses on correct movement quality and not quantity, core stability and increased postural awareness.

Pilates is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels and is particularly beneficial to those with,

  • a history of low back pain
  • recent surgery or rehabilitation needs
  • arthritis or joint pain
  • postnatal hip or back pain
  • pelvic floor problems
