General surgery is the surgical treatment of a broad spectrum of common health conditions. General surgeons have a particular interest in acute abdominal conditions.
Here at Winfield Hospital we provide expert general surgery to patients in the Gloucestershire area.
Investigative tests are performed onsite by our diagnostic service and include: endoscopy examinations, ultrasound, x-ray, MRI or CT scan. We invest in the latest technology and have recently installed the first 64-slice CT scanner in a mobile unit in the world. This provides high definition, fast imaging and an extended range of CT imaging services. Our endoscopy department uses Olympus Scopeguide technology that offers a real-time 3D image of the shape and configuration of the colonoscope inside the body. We are also JAG accredited (Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy) which means we’ve demonstrated and gained recognition in delivering a competent endoscopy service measured against the endoscopy global rating scale.
Our highly experienced general surgeons operate on common abdominal complaints including: anal fissures, anal fistulas, hernias, gallbladder problems, appendicitis, lumps and bumps, haemorrhoids, pilonidal sinus and lipoma removal.
Many procedures are performed using minimally invasive surgery. We are proud to offer the THD procedure (transanal haemorrhoidal dearterialisation), which is an innovative surgical treatment for haemorrhoids, approved by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE), that cures haemorrhoids in a gentle way, while focusing on excellent long term results. We also provide open surgery where appropriate. Our general surgeons work with, and refer to, other specialists as required.
We offer excellence of care throughout from diagnosis to treatment, with convenient appointments, the latest surgical options and supportive post-surgery aftercare.
