Liposuction, also known as liposculpture or lipoplasty, is performed to remove unwanted fat pouches from specific parts of your body such as the thighs, buttocks, hips, stomach, upper arms and the male chest. It sculpts and contours your body and is one of our most popular cosmetic surgery body procedures.
It’s particularly popular if you’ve got areas of fat that has built-up and won’t shift through diet and exercise alone.
During liposuction small incisions are made in your skin in the target area and a cannula is inserted that removes the fatty deposits under the skin. It usually takes between one and three hours depending on the size of the area and the number of parts of the body that are being treated. If you’re only having liposuction on a small area of your body you may have a local anaesthetic. General anaesthetic is used to remove the fat from larger areas.
Tummy tuck surgery or an abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat in the abdomen whilst tightening stretched abdominal muscles and flattening stomach bulges and results in a shapelier figure.
This operation is often chosen by women when diet and exercise isn’t able to improve their body any further. It’s suitable for women following childbirth or patients who’ve lost a large amount of excess body weight and are left with loose and saggy skin around the stomach. It’s not used instead of losing weight and toning up naturally.
There are a number of tummy tuck options including: mini, standard or extended tummy tuck. Your cosmetic surgeon will discuss these with you and the best choice for you which often depends on the amount of excess skin you have. Some people choose to have liposuction in conjunction with a tummy tuck to achieve the body they desire.
An abdominoplasty normally takes up to three hours under general anaesthetic.
An arm lift, otherwise known as a brachioplasty tightens your underarm skin. As you get older or if you gain weight, sagging skin often develops under the arms. This loose skin is sometimes referred to as bingo wings or bat wings.
Both men and women commonly choose to have an arm lift to reduce these wings and improve their confidence when wearing short sleeved tops.
An arm lift is performed under general anaesthetic and excess skin from your underarm is removed. Liposuction is sometimes combined with an arm lift to remove any additional fat and enhance your arm shape.
A labiaplasty is a procedure to reduce the size and change the shape of the inner lips (labia minora) by your vaginal opening.
Some women aren’t happy with the appearance of their labia minora and choose a labiaplasty to improve this. For example, they may be enlarged and visible underneath clothing or they may be asymmetrical. Some women’s labia minora cause discomfort when they’re undergoing activities such as walking, cycling or sexual intercourse. A labiaplasty procedure can resolve this.
A labiaplasty is carefully performed under local anaesthetic as a day case procedure.
Scar revision surgery can reduce or remove the appearance of scars. Scars from injuries, burns, previous surgery, acne or chickenpox can be noticeably visible and may cause you to feel self-consciousness.Scar revision surgery flattens, smooths and reduces the prominence of scarred skin. It’s normally performed under local anaesthetic as a day case procedure.
