Trained at the University of Bristol Medical School prior to completing basic surgical and higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the Bristol Orthopaedic Registrar training scheme. Then undertook a specialist neurosurgical complex cervical spinal fellowship. Completed a Doctorate (MD – higher degree) in anatomical sciences at the University of Bristol investigating the aetiology of Degenerative Lumbar Scoliosis. Mr Torrie has published research concerning the basic science of spinal degeneration, risk factors associated with degenerate spondylolisthesis, the influence of lumbar spine subtypes on intervertebral disc degeneration in the young, the relationship between sacral kyphosis and pelvic incidence and factors influencing diagnosis in spondylodiscitis.
