Mr Hornby qualified from Nottingham Medical School in 2003. After a Trauma elective in Houston, Texas, he completed his basic surgical training in Lincoln, worked as a Simulation Fellow in Nottingham, and completed higher surgical training in the South West of Engalnd.
In 2015 Mr Hornby undertook an Upper GI Fellowship at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, Australia and an Upper GP observership at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong.
Mr Hornby holds a Bachelors degree with a thesis on Perioperative Nutritional status measurement, and a Doctorate of Medicine having completed research into biomarkers and Baysian risk modelling for the screening of oesophagogastric cancer.
Mr Hornby is a keen surgical educator, having designed and convened several courses in technical and non-technical surgical skills.
He has served as both President and Director of Education of the Associated of Surgeons in Training, and in 2013 he was awarded Membership of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
