Septorhinoplasty at Winfield Hospital

Septorhinoplasty performs the two procedures, septoplasty and rhinoplasty, at the same time to improve how you breathe through your nose and its appearance.

They can straighten a deviated septum and insert cartilage grafts to correct the deviation. They can also sculpt the nose shape you desire. Whether it is trimming a reduced nose size at the tip or bridge or enlarging part of your nose that is too flat or small, our surgeons can create the new shape you wish for.

If you decide to proceed with surgery, Ramsay Health Care UK have a 14-day ‘cooling-off period’ after your consultation to ensure you are comfortable with your decision. You are under no obligation to proceed with your septorhinoplasty surgery if you decide it is not for you after all.

A septorhinoplasty is also known as a nose job. It is a dual-purpose operation. Firstly, it straightens or repairs your septum (the bone and cartilage in your nose that separates your nostrils). Secondly, it alters the shape of your nose. It is performed if you have breathing problems due to a deviated septum and you would like to change the way your nose looks.

A deviated septum is an off-centre or crooked bone and cartilage that divides your nasal cavity in half. Septoplasty repairs a deviated septum to improve your breathing. Rhinoplasty changes the appearance of your nose often using a graft or implant.

Septorhinoplasty involves making a cut to the skin-like lining inside your nose and lifting it off the cartilage and bone. This means that any scars will be invisible. Any bent cartilage and bone parts are removed and the remaining cartilage and bone are returned in a straight and central position.

Your surgeon may shave or remove some cartilage in the tip or hump of your nose. They can also straighten and narrow the nasal bones by breaking and then setting them.

Cartilage or bone grafts or an artificial implant might be needed to support or rebuild your nasal framework, correct your deviation and give your nose its shape.

Septorhinplasty surgery usually takes one to two hours and is performed under general anaesthetic.

Either an ENT or plastic surgeon who is experienced in rhinoplasty can perform the functional and cosmetic aspects of septorhinoplasty.

Your recovery from this procedure is individual to you and will depend on your age, health and extent of your procedure.

You should be able to go home on the same day.

If you had packing in your nose, it is usually removed the next day. Your surgeon will remove the splint and strapping after a week.

You should stay off work and away from groups of people for two weeks to avoid catching an infection. Also, refrain from strenuous activities for two weeks.

Most swelling and bruising will usually have settled after the third week. It may take many months for the final appearance to develop.

Your healthcare team will advise you of any additional recovery guidance.

The cost of this procedure will depend on the extent and the exact type of surgery you require as well as your Ramsay hospital of choice.

You will receive a formal quotation price for your procedure after your consultation with one of our expert ENT surgeons and following any required tests. This formal quote for your surgery will be valid for 60 days and includes unlimited aftercare.

Ramsay is recognised by all major medical insurers. The costs of septoplasty surgery, when medically necessary, are covered by most medical insurance policies. Cosmetic rhinoplasty is not usually covered by insurance. When having septorhinoplasty, the functional septoplasty component to alleviate breathing problems may be covered by your insurance plan. We advise you to check directly with your insurance company and obtain their written authorisation before your procedure.
