Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology is the diagnosis, management and treatment of eye diseases and disorders. Eye problems can be minor and short lived but some can lead to a permanent loss of vision. Not all eye conditions have symptoms so it’s important to have regular eye check-ups.

Common eye problems we see at Winfield Hospital include: cataracts (clouded lenses), refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia), glaucoma (damage to the optic nerve), age related macular degeneration (AMD – disease that gradually destroys your sharp, central vision), retinal disease and diabetic retinopathy, cornea conditions, eyelid problems (blepharitis, entropion and ectropion), strabismus (squint), floaters and conjunctivitis. We also treat complex eye conditions such as retinal detachment and eye cancers.

We offer the latest treatment techniques including laser eye treatment and the use multifocal and accommodative lenses in cataract surgery to correct refractive errors.

Our highly skilled consultant ophthalmologists have extensive eye care experience. They work closely with our nurses and with consultants in other disciplines when treating patients with other underlying illnesses.

Winfield Hospital offers patients convenient appointments and first class eye care for a wide range of eye conditions.
